Vitra, Inc. www.vitra.com Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) was one of the major designers of the 20th century. Yet outside of France only a relatively small circle of collectors and the cognoscenti are familiar with his oeuvre. Although there have been a few re-editions of his furniture, Prouves designs have never received the attention they undoubtedly deserve. For this reason, Vitras interest was immediately kindled when they heard that the Prouvé family was looking for a manufacturer for his furniture designs, including the Prouvé Standard Chair, which was originally designed in 1934. Vitra is committed to contemporary design and favors the development of new products for a new age. That said, there are products from other eras that have lost none of their glory, that remain current and unsurpassed. Vitra has found this to be the case with the works of Charles and Ray Eames, of George Nelson, and of Verner Panton. And Vitra is now pleased to be representing another great 20th-century designer.
