Lot 1 The title of this small piece, like all of Julie Heffernan’s works, is prefaced with the words “Self-Portrait.” According to dealer Paul Kopeikin, with whom Heffernan had her first ever west coast solo show just last year, her works are akin to “entries in a journal … constructed from the accumulation of symbols around a central figure or figures. These scenes, dreams or dramas collide with the main figure and enable Heffernan to translate her own complex experiences into her paintings.” Heffernan earned her BFA from UC/Santa Cruz and her MFA from Yale School of Art. She has received numerous awards and fellowships, including a Lila Wallace Reader’s Digest Individual Artist’s Grant and Residency at Giverny and a National Endowment for the Arts grant. Her works are included in significant public and private collections throughout the country. |
