The female figure cups two large vessels to her chest while her arms overflow with fruits – a cornucopia of fertility symbolism. The humor of Megan Williams' drawing is offset by the seemingly tragic facial expression of the figure. Williams’ work often explores aspects of the body and human sexuality with complex humor – sometimes tragic – as well as lush line and color. A founding board member of Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions twenty-six years ago, Williams received her BFA from the California Institute of the Arts that same year. Since then she has lived and shown extensively in Los Angeles and around the world; here, her work was most recently seen in a solo exhibition at Carl Berg Gallery in Los Angeles and in the “25th Anniversary Show” at Christopher Grimes Gallery in Santa Monica.
