With an active exhibition schedule since 1996, this month alone Edgar Arceneaux has solo shows scheduled at Susanne Vielmetter in Los Angeles, Gallery Kamm in Berlin and Ludwig Forum in Aachen, Germany. He has garnered awards from the American Center for the Arts, the LEF Foundation, and the Pat Hearn Award. A native Angeleno, Arceneaux’s work often gives image to word-play. Here, he has referenced three figures with names connected to the cosmos – artist Sol LeWitt’s name contains the Spanish word for sun, Galileo is known for his extensive studies of the cosmos, and the eccentric genius musician Sun Ra has a reputation for having insisted that he originated from Saturn.
