Lot 09 This etching and aquatint by Dan McCleary, entitled “The Bride,” is a portrait of clean expressive lines. In opposition to the usual images of brides, this woman is for the most part unadorned and is looking directly at the viewer, without a shred of sentimentality and with a firm and steady gaze. A Southern California native, McCleary has shown extensively within California, including solo shows at the Carl Berg Gallery, the Colburn School of Performing Arts, and the Bakersfield Museum of Art. He has taught at University of Southern California in Los Angeles, Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, and UCLA. His works can be found in public collections including the Harvard Art Museum in Cambridge, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among others. |
