These two photographs were taken on Michael Jackson Street in Gary, Indiana, where the entertainer lived as a child. Writer James Scarborough says, “Rodney McMillian’s work limns absence as an unmitigated presence. His take on absence is more sensual that cerebral.” His artwork has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Finesilver / FYI in Austin, Texas, Artissima 10 in Torino, Italy, and Susanne Vielmetter in Los Angeles. Born in South Carolina, McMillian earned his BFA and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. He now lives and works in Los Angeles.
