Inspired by postwar American history, and the tension between our social ideals, identity, and mythology, Sam Durant creates startling and often caustic associations and collisions between fine art and popular culture. An influential member of a generation of West Coast artists that have come into prominence in the last ten years, Durant lives and works in Los Angeles, where he is represented by Blum & Poe gallery. He has exhibited work in dozens of group shows in the United States, Austria, Belgium, Britain, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Scotland, and Sweden. He has had solo exhibitions in galleries in the United States as well as in Europe and Japan.
