Lot 52 Kelley Walker “tackles some of today’s most complex debates regarding issues of authorship and authenticity, reproduction and circulation, and the role of the viewer.” (Paula Cooper Gallery, New York) Through the computerized process of layering ubiquitous, iconic found pictures and scanned abstractions of everyday materials, Walker creates digital images which are meant to be printed on inexpensive paper and thus viewed as posters. These posters are arranged in a collection on a CD and enable the viewer to manipulate, print, and display a piece, thus the viewer (or CD purchaser) becomes an active participant in the creation of a new piece – essentially collaborating with Walker himself. Walker was born in Columbus Georgia, grew up in Tennessee and today lives and works in New York City. |
