One of Latin America’s foremost video artists, Miguel Angel Rios was born in Argentina and now divides his time between New York and Mexico City. His three-channel video installation “A Morir (‘til Death)” will be shown at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions next month. The piece, which was shot in Tepoztlan, Mexico, focuses on a popular street game called “trompos” that involves spinning tops. Through the recording of the game of trompos, the dynamics of competition, aggression and territorialism, urban sprawl and congestion are signaled both visually and aurally. |
