A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Robert Fontenot has shown on the East Coast consistently for the past six years and is now working and living in Los Angeles. By being embroidered – a medium more often associated with domestic femininity – the crass word displayed in this piece has startling effects. “WHORE” is part of a larger series of hand-embroidered samplers depicting words with negative connotations.
