26 MARK BRADFORD Untitled, 2004 Mark Bradford “succeeds in transforming his occupational handiwork into a reinvigorated rather than elegiac abstract expressionist order” (Mason Klien, Artforum). His participation in “Freestyle” at the Studio Museum in Harlem in 2001 and his solo exhibition at Lombard-Fried gallery in New York later that year placed him in numerous public and private collections. Bradford received his BFA and MFA from California Institute for the Arts and has been featured in a solo show at the Whitney Museum of American Art at Phillip Morris in NY. He has also been the recipient of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award, and has garnered praise from the New York Times, Art in America, and Los Angeles Times. His paintings “aren’t imitating life, but rather documenting and celebrating it, and keeping it relevant to the community that it borrows from.” (Trevor Schoonmaker, One World) courtesy of the artist |
