ABOUT LOS ANGELES CONTEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS

[VOLUNTEERING / INTERNSHIP / EMPLOYMENT]  [SUBMISSIONS]

Organizational Purpose

Twenty years ago Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions originated from a need for a Los Angeles venue that supports, exhibits and advocates innovations in art-making. By encouraging experimentation, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions has nurtured not only several generations of young and under-recognized artists, but also newly emerging art forms such as performance art, installation-based work, video art and artwork created with digital technologies. Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions is a dynamic venue for artistic exploration, a promoter of innovative art, a supporter of living artists, and an educator of audiences about contemporary art and the art-making process. For twenty years, programs at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions have provided the impetus for dialogue about contemporary arts and culture.

Organizational Structure

Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions is governed by a Board of Directors of fifteen. The Board includes artists and local professionals who have a keen interest in contemporary art. The Board has legal responsibility for policy making, planning and fundraising. The Board meets bimonthly to review, discuss, and decide issues brought to it by committees and staff and to monitor the organization's financial status.

The staff is comprised of three full-time and five part-time employees: executive director/curator (ft), development director (ft), managing director (ft), program coordinator (pt), communications coordinator (pt), preparator (pt), gallery attendant (pt), and administrative assistant (pt). This staff is bolstered by a rotating group two to five interns from local colleges, universities who work on a variety of projects.
