Sky Projects. An opening reception took place on Saturday 6 October
2001 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. In addition, there was a performance
entitled Three Songs for Ella on Thursday 11 October 2001 beginning
at 7:30pm. Admission for the performance was $7 at the door. For

Paulina Wallennerg Olsson
presented New Population, a synthesis of photography, 3D-animation,
and the sculpture of mass-production. New Population portrays
an imaginary population through portraiture, text, and song. The
exhibition consisted of five portraits in the form of diptychs as
well as one larger work. All of the portraits depict digitally created
child-like figures that initially seem playful and familiar yet
ultimately are exposed as unsettling and alien. This effect is achieved
through the diptych format that yields the underlying duality in
every character of New Population. Olsson's figures appear
either open or closed, exposed or concealed, active or inactive,
creating an unsettling relationship between each character's two
halves.
A related performance,
Three Songs for Ella took place Thursday 11 October 2001 at 7:30
pm. The performance incorporated pre-recorded sound, free improvised
vocals, live computer generated sound, text, still images, and video.
These elements are somewhat variable as the performance changes
each time it is presented, but in essence and concept, the performance
remains about the terrors of memory, and the relationship between
an observer and what is observed.
Other events in the constellation6
series included Charong Chow at Coleman Gallery, Leah Singer at
Acuna-Hansen Gallery and Electronic Orphanage, Tamara Fites at Post,
Michael Dee and Colin Cook at Pageant. For more information please
